Decision made in favour of Matten and the Bernese Oberland
The Population fully supports the Theme Park "Mysteries of the World"
December 2nd, 1998
A significant moment in the young history of the "Mysteries of the World" project: the population of the small village of Matten has voted YES for the realization of the theme park "Mysteries of the World". Not only have they opened the door for Erich von Daniken and his initiators to extend their plans, but have also made an important decision for Matten and the Bernese Oberland.
With great joy Erich von Daniken extended his thanks to the people who have put forth a great amount of trust for the project. The world famous author and researcher states that "everything will be done to ensure that the theme park will greatly contribute to the enhancement of the region's economic qualities." Special attention is also being paid to environmental protection, where about 40% of all visitors will be using the public transportation system to get to the park.
The concrete project for the "Mysteries of the World" theme park will be presented to the shareholders of the planning board at a general meeting on April 16, 1999. The required building permits along with a detailed environmental protection analysis must then be approved by the city council of Matten and, once again, could face grounds for appeal. By then, all traffic solutions have to be put forward as well.
Based on the current business plan and some of the base projects already approved, investors and sponsors will then be approached to negotiate the financing of the estimated $40 million, prior to any grounds breaking. Until that point, however, all the current tasks are financed by the planning board, in which anyone can participate and therefore has the opportunity directly to be a part of the creation of "Mysteries of the World."
"Mysteries of the World" is a world wide unique theme park which brings together all the mysteries of the world in one park and therefore allows everyone to see them up close. The many questions and theories of the unsolved remnants such as the Pyramids at Giza and Chitzen-Itza, the "ET Airport" of Nazca, Peru, or the stone alignments in the region of French Brittany will be presented side by side and should give flight to fantasy and stimulate the mind.
The 60,000 square metre theme park will be built in the area of a now defunct air force base near Interlaken. The 500,000 visitors will create up to 150,000 additional room nights for the region. Directly, there will be 60 new jobs created, and indirectly about 150. The opening of the park is scheduled for the spring of 2002.
