Mystery Park Interlaken: New Contractual Partners

December 6th, 2000

The planning of the Mystery Park initiated by Erich von Däniken in Interlaken, is going ahead at top speed. Despite this however, the project may suffer a delay of about two months, caused by objections relating to building permission. Two new contractual partners have been gained for the Mystery Park and an increase in share capital is planned for next spring.

Letters of Intent have been finalized between the Mystery Park management and two new commercial partners. The Valora Group, with business interests in Kiosks, Caffé Spettacolo, Merkur, Fotolabo and Messer Dolmetsch becomes the official retail partner. The group is also proposing to take over the sales areas of the planned shopping zone. The Hotela Insurance Company in Montreux, particularly involved in the field of tourism, wishes to support the Park as a notable future investor and commercial partner (sponsoring). Further highly promising negotiations are also in progress with national and international companies. Partnership contracts have already been signed with the Feldschlösschen Group, Sony and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).

Objections are being cleared up, personnel increased.
Formal objections relating to the "Access Development of the Municipality of Interlaken" building regulations and the building regulations for the Aendermoos area have already been settled. According to Oskar Schärz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mystery Park AG, the remaining objections apply solely to the general planning application. These are expected to be settled at an official hearing on 20 December 2000.

Oskar Schärz is confident that building permission will be obtained by the end of February 2001 and that the Mystery Park will open on schedule in spring 2002. He estimates the project to be about two months behind schedule at the moment. The project initiators will make every possible effort to regain this lost time. Oskar Schärz adds "Planning is going ahead at full speed and in the coming weeks we shall add to our team, with specific aims in mind". In particular, additional experts are to be appointed in commercial management, marketing and creative presentation co-ordination.

High Resource Liquidity
The adventure and theme park, with total costs estimated at about CHF 80 million, is to be financed exclusively from its own resources. As a result of the last increase in share capital, investments from private individuals and the to date definitive commercial partnerships, the park now has available capital and guaranteed funds (partially for the operating phase) of approx. CHF 30 million. Liquid assets amount to approx. CHF 17 million, ensuring that construction work is guaranteed to the end of the coming year.

Nevertheless, the Mystery Park AG intends to also base future relevant stages of financing on a solid foundation. Subsequent to building permission being granted as anticipated at the end of February 2001, the shareholders general meeting planned for 1 March 2001 will decide on the next increase in share capital and future financial strategy.

Beat Kaderli, Financial Director of the Mystery Park AG reports that estimated visitor frequency and resulting budget projections have been examined by the prestigious business consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers, and received a positive evaluation. Some 500'000 people are expected to visit the park annually.

Science Center sets Standards
As well as the park's seven Mysteries of the World themes, visitors will also find a Science Center in the middle of the complex. Leader of this project is Andreas Müller, educationalist and school director from Beatenberg. He visualises the unique Science Center as being a fascinating world of exploration and discovery, a place to encounter phenomena and unsolved mysteries and to make exciting expeditions. "Curiosity is the driving force behind all forms of learning", says Andreas Müller.

An area of over two thousand sq. meters will house various interconnecting Worlds of Discovery. In Playland, younger children will find a wide variety of playful ways to study puzzling questions. The Exploratorium will contain experiments and incredible phenomena. In Infospace, modern technology will allow visitors to investigate the mysteries of this planet in more depth, or to take part in a virtual expedition.

All visitors to the park, in particular school classes and groups, will have the opportunity to gather new learning experiences. Excellent quality and a high standard of innovation will be guaranteed by experts from the worlds of science, education and the economy.

The project will be supported by, amongst others, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco).

Last but not least, the Science Center will reflect the desire of the initiators to ensure the Mystery Park's mid and long-term success with innovations and new mysteries.

Progressive Energy Concept
The Mystery Park places great significance on a future-orientated ecological balance. Thanks to a direct source of cool energy from ground water, it will be possible to cool the buildings with less than 5% of the electricity which would normally be required for this process. In addition, wood will be used as fuel, by utilising the nearby recently constructed collective central heating plant. The plant is fired with wood shavings which are CO2 neutral, therefore both ecologically sound and environmentally friendly. The amount of CO2 pollution produced in heating the whole complex will be reduced by 99% when compared to a conventional heating system.
