The Mysteries of Nazca

The small town of Nazca is situated in an arid region 450 km south of Lima, Peru. Looking at the immense area from the air, an unbelievable panorama unfolds--the largest picture book in the world. It consists of three elements: 1. straight, kilometre-long lines faithfully strech over land over hills, and over valleys. 2. Strips of up to 1.6 km long and 70 metres wide that look very much like air strips. 3. Giant drawings which have been scraped into the ground and on the mountain slopes. All these details would go unnoticed on foot or in the car. They become recognizable only in an airplane. The observer on the ground would see only a reddish-brown desert of hardened sand and brownish-black gravel. Since 1949, various theories have been postulated by scientists and by amateurs attempting to explain the mysteries of Nazca, but none of these theories has withstood close examination. Each of the theories is refutable.

A group of professors from the Technical and Economics College of Dresden, helped develop a Digital Terrain Model permitting the creation of various computer animations of the area. "Mysteries of the World" will simulate flights over Nazca from all possible angles at an altitude of between 1,000 metres and ground level. The drawings can be examined down to the centimetre and can be placed in the correct geographical position in relation to the stars at certain dates.

As many theories as possible concerning the mysteries of Nazca will be presented audio-visually, as will the various contradictions. Presentations will be available in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. But the visitor will not get definite answers to the questions being raised because there arent any. After the presentation of each theory, a holographic question mark will appear over the heads of the visitors and disappears into infinity.

On the walls of the foyers and passageways of the pavilion, other places will be shown where early man has also scratched gigantic markings in the ground. Markings for the gods. For which gods?
